Essay — Nami Yoshida

Choosing
not to leave
my body
behind.

Feel Great is part of this imperfect life of mine.

about this page

Something I carry in my bag, most days.

If you follow me on social media, you've probably seen it — a little yellow package that shows up in the background sometimes.
People ask, "what is that?" often enough that I figured I should actually write it down properly:
the Feel Great (FG) pack I use.

But instead of just describing the product,
I'd rather start with why it's part of my life right now.
That feels more like me.

So I'm starting with the everyday stuff.

now

A little about my everyday life

I'm Nami Yoshida.
A single mom, raising my daughter while juggling a few different jobs.

I build learning programs, get involved in local community projects, meet people, come up with new ideas.
I travel a lot for it. I'm basically always doing something.

And also — some days I just feel done with everything. Some days I put things off and go to sleep instead.
I eat out, I get sleepy, some days everything just feels like too much.

I'm not someone with a perfectly put-together life. Not even close.
I'm more someone who lets things get messy, and keeps resetting, over and over.
That's probably closer to who I actually am right now.

past

When I used to leave my body behind

I got divorced.
I filed for bankruptcy.
I received public assistance.

...This was during the pandemic.

Looking back, I don't think I had any room, back then, to pay real attention to my own body — including things like eating properly or resting.

From there, I rebuilt things — life, body, work, relationships — one at a time.

I'm not trying to turn this into a success story. This is just what happened, as fact.

And "rebuilt" isn't quite right, either. I'm still in the middle of it.

choosing

Choosing
a different
way forward.

What I'm choosing now isn't to keep pushing myself and running on empty.
These days I'm learning from a lot of different angles — including a nervous-system perspective — and building my life day by day, based on how I'm actually doing.

That said, I second-guess myself a lot.
Some days I think, "was that really the right call?", after the fact.

Some days are good. Some aren't. I just assume that's how it works.

Back when I was rebuilding, I was changing a lot of things at once — how I ate, how I slept, how I worked.
Since I was changing so many things at the same time, I don't credit any single one of them for where I am now.

practice

Not leaving my
body behind —
in practice

My mood dips. I'm sleepy. I want to nap. I want to put this off.
When those feelings show up, I try not to immediately decide, "I'm just being lazy."

So first, I:

  • take a few slow breaths, gently, without forcing it
  • let my eyes rest on something far away
  • zone out for a bit
  • ask myself, "what do I actually want right now?"

If, after that, I really think "okay, I'm genuinely tired" — I put the task off and go to sleep.
If it feels less like tiredness and more like "I just don't want to change how I usually do this," I try moving a little, within reason.
I don't always get it right the first time, so I check in with myself afterward too.
Sometimes I realize later, "huh, that wasn't it," and start over.

For me, listening to my body doesn't mean resting no matter what.
Sometimes I rest. Sometimes I choose to move. I just check in with myself first, instead of reacting on autopilot, and choose. That's really all it is.

Of course, I can't always do this. On busy days, I'm running before I've even checked in.
And a fair number of those days, I only realize afterward — "oh, I was tired" — once I've already been running.

* This is just my own approach. If something feels off for a while, please talk to a doctor rather than relying on what's written here.

fg

From here, this is about Feel Great (FG).

A way of thinking is
one thing. A product
is another.

But both of them are just part of the same life I'm living.

what is feel great?

What is Feel Great, exactly?

What I mean by "Feel Great" on this page is a pack of
1x Balance and 2x Unimate Lemon.

Honestly, I used to be pretty extreme about health stuff. It's a lot, I know.

I was obsessive about everything around me being "natural" and "additive-free" —
looking back, I was honestly over the top about it.

I eventually realized that obsession itself had become part of what made life hard for me.
I started bringing this kind of product into my life in 2023.

Back then it was still called "Bios Life,"
and I've kept using this type of product ever since.

I don't take just anything, though.

These days it's less "for special occasions"
and more just... one of the ordinary things I toss in my bag when I go out.

Unicity Balance and Unimate Lemon packaging

why unicity?

Why I
choose
Unicity.

There are a lot of health-related products out there. Genuinely a lot.

At this point,
I've stopped choosing things
just because "it's natural" or "it's well-known."

These days, here's roughly what I actually look at.

  1. I can check the information myself.
  2. It can realistically fit into my life, without forcing it.
  3. I understand what I'm choosing — not just because someone told me to.

Unicity is one of the things
I've chosen, by those criteria.

Not believing everything blindly —
checking for myself,
and using it because it actually makes sense to me.

daily

This is roughly what it looks like, day to day

When I first started using this Feel Great pack, it was pretty much a "let's just try it" kind of thing.

For the first six months or so, I followed the official directions pretty seriously.
Now I'm a lot more relaxed about it — I still check the official guidance, but I fit it into my own rhythm.

I bring it with me whenever I go out, so it's basically just tossed in my bag at all times.

If I feel like having it while I'm out eating, I'll — feeling a little guilty about it — quickly stir it into my water glass at the restaurant.
If the glass is small, I'll split it across two glasses so I still get the amount of water the official instructions call for.
And then, more than once, the server has tried to refill my water, and I've had to go,

"Oh — sorry! I already put something in this one..."

...and get a new glass instead.
Genuinely, thank you, every single time — I really am that person at this point.

This is just one slice of my everyday life. For the actual amount and how to take it, please check the official site.
This page is simply about my own experience.

notes

What I like, and why I've kept going

I just genuinely like the taste. Not too heavy — light. (That's just my personal taste, to be clear.)

Taking a moment to actually drink it —
that's become a small pause in my day, for me.

Why I've kept going with it: the taste works for me, it's easy to carry around, it fits easily into my life.
And when I look at the cost as just one part of my overall living expenses, it's felt — even as a single mom — like something I can keep up without it being a real strain. I used to buy a bunch of separate things individually, so I'm also just glad it's easier to manage now, within my own life. How the cost feels is going to be different for everyone, though.

Some people simply find it isn't a good fit for them. Some don't like the taste, or the particular mouthfeel that comes from the fiber content, and depending on your body, things like bloating can be a concern.
If you feel real discomfort, or if something feels off with your body, please don't push through it — stop using it, and talk to a doctor or pharmacist if you need to.

For detailed ingredients, sourcing, and supplier information, please check the official site. That'll be more accurate than anything I could explain myself.

guide

A rough guide to whether this is for you

This might be a good fit if

  • you want to choose based on whether the taste and everyday usability actually suit you
  • you want to check the ingredients and terms yourself on the official site before deciding
  • you're planning to keep handling the basics of your life — food, sleep, movement — on your own
  • if you were to continue, the cost would stay within a range that doesn't strain you

This might not be the right fit if

  • you're expecting this alone to change something dramatically
  • the monthly cost, if you kept it up, would feel like a real burden

I don't have this all figured out. I still react to things — even today — and some days I'm just tired. I eat out, and some days don't go the way I want them to.
Even so, I'm choosing a life that doesn't leave my body behind.

Feel Great is part of that life.
Just an ordinary thing in my bag.

Thank you for reading.
